Bronze Medallion/Emergency First Aid
This course is the first step in becoming a lifeguard. It develops physical fitness, decision making and judgement skills for water rescue. This course includes Emergency First Aid and CPR B certification. 100% attendance is strongly recommended. The required manual for this course is called the Canadian Life Saving Manual and may be purchased at the first class. The manual cost is $37.00. Candidates must be 13 years of age by the last day of the course or have the Bronze star award.
Bronze Cross/Standard First Aid
This course explores the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding. It also focuses on emergency procedures, team work, and use of specialized equipment. This course now includes Standard First Aid and CPR level C certification. Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid. Candidates use the Canadian Lifesaving manual that they used during Bronze Medallion
National Lifeguard Service
The Lifesaving Society NLS award builds on fundamental skills, knowledge and values to develop the practical skills and knowledge required by lifeguards. This award is recognized as the standard measurement of lifeguard performance in Canada. Mandatory pre-requisites include Bronze Cross, current Standard First Aid within 2 years, and age of 16 by the last day of the course. The course manual is called Alert and is approximately $37.00. It may be purchased at the first class. 100% attendance is mandatory for this course.
